Heart of Cabrini Award

The Heart of Cabrini Award annually recognizes an individual who has steadfastly and unselfishly served the people of God through a lifelong commitment to caring, healing, and teaching, with a special focus on youth, immigrants or women – groups which align with Cabrinian tradition.

2011 Recipient – Rev. George A. Lane, S.J.

The Missionary Sisters of the Sacred Heart of Jesus and the Cabrini Retreat Center are pleased to bestow the 2011 Heart of Cabrini Award to Rev. George A. Lane, S.J.

As an author, editor and publisher at Loyola Press for over 40 years, Father Lane had a profound impact on nurturing the living faith. Under his leadership, Loyola Press published hundreds of religious education titles and scores of other educational and inspirational materials.

Father Lane’s inspired perseverance to save Holy Family Church, Chicago’s second oldest church, from certain demolition in 1990 is another of his memorable legacies.

As a dedicated member of the Cabrini Retreat Center’s Advisory Committee, he has worked tirelessly to ensure that the Center can continue to welcome retreatants of all faiths and reach out to those not served by other Chicagoland retreat centers, particularly the youth.

Special Recognition

On the 55th anniversary of its founding, we recognize the Missionary Sisters of the Stella Maris Province for their vision, leadership and direct service to this spiritual ministry.
