Each year over 3,000 young people like Michael experience the presence of God and the power of faith through a retreat at Cabrini Retreat Center.

For many teens, a retreat experience is an essential part of their spiritual growth in that it provides a loving atmosphere in which to hear God’s call, discern what they will do with their life and reflect on the kind of person they want to become.

Cabrini Retreat Center has hosted and subsidized youth retreats for over 40 years and is the only retreat facility in the Archdiocese of Chicago whose primary focus is on youth. The Missionary Sisters and staff believe that this time for spiritual growth is so important that no young person open to the experience should be turned away.

All young people come at reduced rates and those in need receive an even greater subsidy. Current subsidies average nearly $100,000 annually. That translates into a discount of roughly $30 per student. But as the Sisters’ resources diminish, help is needed to continue this tradition.

Cabrini Retreat Center works especially hard to remain flexible on its pricing structure and to keep daily costs at a reasonable and affordable level. And yet, operating costs continue to rise, putting the Center under even greater pressure to pass along increases in order to break even and remain financially viable. For many schools and students, however, an additional increase could put the cost out of their reach.

So, we turn to you, our faithful friend. Will you be a “Retreat Angel” and help support a needy student? Your gift of $30 or whatever you can share, will help us to continue providing a secure, inviting atmosphere in which more young people can examine their lives and explore their faith.

As we journey through this Advent season, we recall how God’s angels came to herald the love and promise of God to humanity. In the faces of our youth we see new hope and the promise of new bearers of Christ’s love to the world.
